In the latest release, you can now use a pen tool to create custom masks instead of just using the ellipse or rectangle mask. In the last update, we were given the power to create masks and track those masks within Premiere Pro. Masking with the Pen Tool in Premiere Pro The first thing that comes to mind for me are titles, music, bugs and b-roll, but essentially you can now extract anything from the timeline of another project into your current project without having to import the entire project. So if you open a previous project in the media browser, now you can preview a sequence and drag in any elements you need into your current project. Using the media browser you can bring several projects at once into your current project by dragging the elements you need. If you’re working with projects that have similar elements, effects, clips, transitions, etc., you will now be able to open projects within a project, and extract the elements you need very fast. Multi-project workflows: open media and sequences from other projects You can search by effects, labels, media type and a variety of other criteria to make finding your needle in a haystack much faster. This is key for complex sequences that are jammed with a myriad of clips and other elements. This latest release also includes a more robust search tool for the timeline, enabling you to find specific clips or elements within the timeline. Once you create a new search bin, a new drop down will appear allowing you to create a bin based solely on the criteria you set, by key word, by tag, by duration, etc. You will now be able to create a “Search Bin” consisting of media that match the search criteria you set. Although Premiere Pro has always had this ability, this release has improved how they handle metadata, making it more accessible to those who haven’t used the feature in the past. Product Manager Al Mooney says the key emphasis for this latest version is discoverability of media through metadata. This latest update is quite robust, and although the new UI will no doubt steal the show, there’s much more to this latest release than meets the eye.
